Residents’ Activities

Sunday Socials

Residents, Family, and Friends gather in the main lobby on May 16, 2010

Since its early conception in December of 2003, the PDC Family and Friends Council Sunday Social has been a special time for residents, families and friends to gather in the main lounge of the PDC Houses to enjoy many types of entertainment.

On the third Sunday afternoon of each month from 2 to 3:00 p.m., this social is planned in order to give families an opportunity to enjoy an activity with their resident while learning about the presence and value of the Family Council as an organization.

Residents, their families & friends are invited to come and enjoy live entertainment.

This also serves as a time for residents and families to meet each other in a pleasant and friendly environment where they can exchange ideas and experiences, make suggestions for improvements and get to know the Family Council Committee Members.  Please mark your calendars and make a point of attending each of these special times each month.  Your assistance is needed to be sure your relative is able to get from his or her room to the main lounge in time for the entertainment and the experience is much more pleasant when it is shared with someone.

Thanks to Helen & Graham Wallingford, for their dedication to our residents throughout the years!

What: Sunday Socials

Where: Main Lounge, PDC Houses

When: 3rd Sunday of each month (except in June, July & August)

Time: 2 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.

What you can do?  Come early and assist residents in getting from their rooms to the main lounge.  Then stay to keep them company and enjoy the great live entertainment.

Christmas Gifts

The Family and Friends Council decided to dedicate the funds usually spent on individual gifts to entertainment during the Christmas Season. Singers and instrumentalists were hired to come into each of the houses and bungalows to provide Christmas music. Many Family Council members joined the residents during this special time, to bring joy to those who are unable to participate in outside community events. Feedback received showed that this was very much appreciated and had a more long-lasting effect than attempting to provide individual, inexpensive personal gifts.

The Family and Friends Council would very much appreciate your assistance in helping us to continue this activity. Your annual membership fee of $10 helps us to provide this type of entertainment at Christmas as well as throughout the year. If you have ideas for future Christmas gifts for residents (while keeping in mind that there are over 200 residents so funds are limited to a dollar or two per resident) please do contact your Family and Friends Council representative and let them know

Christmas at PDC

It has been a concern of The Family and Friends Council for many years that there may be residents living at Peter D. Clark LTC facility who have no family to spend time with them or to advocate for them.  The Christmas season may be an especially lonely time for seniors who are unable to visit family at this time or who have no family.  Celebrations may pass without a gift being received, so over the past few years, the council has provided a small wrapped gift to each resident on Christmas morning. This is not only a way that The Family and Friends Council increase the awareness of this organization but also a method that we think helps to make PDC more home-like and welcoming. A few examples of gifts delivered to each resident on past Christmases include lap blankets, Christmas socks, baseball caps, annual calendars, small throw pillows and wheelchair/walker tote bags.
